Midday report -- Harrison County
New Harrison County Emergency Management Agency director Joe Spraggins stressed repeatedly the danger facing the Mississippi Gulf Coast in a midday press conference at the county courthouse in Gulfport.
"We can't express enough the words 'catastrophic' and 'danger,'" said Spraggins.
The county is anticipating receiving tropical storm force winds by 10 p.m., with hurricane force winds at 6 a.m. There could be hurricane force winds for 12-13 hours and a storm surge of 24-26 feet is anticipated -- numbers that rival Camille's impact in 1967. Spraggins said this storm could be every bit as destructive as that storm.
The last flight will leave Gulfport-Biloxi International Airport at 6 p.m., with the field closing at midnight.
